A YOUNGSTER from York made her own dream come true when she arranged for her favourite boy band to come and play at her school.

Leonie James, a Year 8 pupil at York High School, could not believe it when Reconnected put on a concert for her and about 500 of her classmates.

The 12-year-old saw the teen trio at the Barbican when they supported Little Mix in February and spoke to the boys backstage, who told her about their school tour.

She said: “They told me about their Facebook page and I signed up to the tour, nearly two weeks later they wrote back and said they were coming. I nearly started crying I was so happy. I thought we wouldn’t have a chance of getting them.

“They played for about an hour in the school hall and because I organised it I got to go backstage with my mum, Kellie James and my best friend Ellie Morgan.

“We talked about Matt, who was unable to be there because he was ill.

“Just talking to them was great and we got to stand right at the front when they were playing. It really was the best thing ever.”

Reconnected made the final of Britain’s Got Talent and consist of Matt Fitzgerald and brothers Max & Harry Mondryk. They were the first signing to Duncan Bannatyne’s new record label Bannatyne Music, originally created through an investment on the BBC show Dragons Den.

The first single, which they performed at York High, One In A Million, was released on Sunday Dani Hustwick, head of Year 8, said: “Leonie can take full credit for Reconnected visiting York High School. As Leonie organised for them to visit we decided to offer a free concert as a reward to pupils in Years 7-9.

“It was a fantastic event and I’m sure all the pupils really enjoyed it as many were screaming and shouting the whole way through and there was a big queue for autographs afterwards. I really think Leonie is their number one fan.”
