THE head of the Tour de France has said preparations for Yorkshire staging the start of next year’s race are looking “fantastic”.
Jean-Etienne Amaury, president of the event’s organiser ASO, visited Yorkshire yesterday ahead of the county hosting the opening two stages of the 2014 race, Le Grand Départ, with York forming part of the route.
His visit came a day after the Government confirmed tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire, which led Yorkshire’s bid, would receive £10 million in public funding for the event.
Mr Amaury said: “It looks fantastic so far and we expect great enthusiasm in Yorkshire for the Tour.
“The scenery and quality of the infrastructure in Yorkshire has been a very important factor to decide to host the Grand Départ here.”
