Reese Witherspoon is in negotiations to produce 'The Engagements'.

The actress is in talks with movie studio Fox 2000 to produce the romantic drama - which is an adaptation of a forthcoming J. Courtney Sullivan novel - through her Pacific Standard production company and she may also star in the film, according to Variety.

The novel, which is due for release in June, centres on a diamond engagement ring that connects five different couples between the 1930s and present day, with each of the love stories interconnecting in surprising and unique ways.

The 'This Means War' star is also set to produce 'Gone Girl', the movie based on Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel, for 20th Century Fox.

Acclaimed 'The Social Network' director David Fincher is set to direct, while the film's lead role has become one of the most sought after parts in Hollywood with numerous A-list actresses thought to be vying for it.

'Gone Girl' follows Amy Dunne, whose secret life is uncovered through a series of diary entries after she vanishes on her fifth wedding anniversary and her husband, Nick, becomes a suspect in her disappearance. The book is structured with each chapter alternating between the point of view of husband and wife.
