Nadine Coyle has said she had "no part" in the Girls Aloud split and tried to convince the other members to keep the group together.

Nadine Coyle "couldn't stop" the Girls Aloud split.

The band announced they were disbanding for good after the final show on their 'Ten: The Hits Tour' in Liverpool on Wednesday night but Nadine has now come out to say she wanted the group to carry on.

In a Twitter post this afternoon, she said: "You should know by now I had no part in any of this split business. I couldn't stop them. I had the best time & want to keep going. Xxxx (sic)"

Nadine was left in tears on stage as she and her bandmates - Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding - performed together for the final time.

In other tweets, she wrote: "I have seen you many of you at the tour work as hard as us! That is why I cried last night on stage & probably tonight again. Not sad, happy ... Happy tears. I cannot thank you enough. I love seeing all your faces. Ok more tears. I love you all forever. Xxxxx NC (sic)"

Rumours had been rife the concerts would be Girls Aloud's last but the five members had made a pact to keep the news secret until their tour ended.

The band posted a statement on their official Twitter page within hours of the tour concluding.

They said: "Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade. It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together. Love you lots."

When Girls Aloud were on hiatus, Nadine's solo album 'Insatiable' bombed and was savaged by critics, while Cheryl's LPs propelled her to the top of the charts.

Sarah launched a successful acting career, appearing in 'St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold', Kimberley got to the final of 'Strictly Come Dancing' and Nicola released make-up range 'Dainty Doll' for women with fair skin.
