LITTERBUGS caught dropping rubbish in York will be fined £75 from today.
City of York Council is reminding residents and visitors that they could soon be fined for committing a range of environmental crimes.
Street environment officers already issue £50 fixed penalty notices for litter louts, but new fines to be issued from today include £75 for dropping litter, including cigarette ends, which will be reduced to £50 if payment is made within 10 days.
People who do not comply with the authority's rules for bin collection will be fined £100, reduced to £60 if payment is made within 10 days.
Graffiti or fly-posting will lead to a £75 fine and companies failing to produce waste transportation documents will have to pay out £300.
