AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a baby from York who has tragically died, at only seven days old.

Tallulah Wharton-Fox – whose funeral was taking place at a York church today – was born on February 21, apparently in good health, said York Coroner Donald Coverdale.

But on the morning of February 28, her mother began to bottle feed her and the baby’s breathing became shallow and she became floppy, Mr Coverdale told the inquest in York.

Her parents, Lauren Wharton and Jamie Fox, carried out CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), as did paramedics who were called out.

Tallulah was taken to York Hospital, where further resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, and she died that evening.

Mr Covderdale said that at this time, the cause of Tallulah’s death was pending further investigations and unascertained.

The coroner adjourned the inquest to a later date, when inquiries have been completed.

Tallulah was the granddaughter of Debbie and Shane and the late Eddie Wharton.

Her funeral was taking place at 10.30am today at St Oswald’s Church, in Main Street, Fulford, followed by interment at nearby Fulford Cemetery.

Her family have asked mourners to “wear a touch of pink” to the funeral, adding in an obituary notice: “Our perfect little Princess, night night, sleep tight Angel.”
