Can I take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of people that turned out at York Crematorium to celebrate the life of Ernie Cambridge, former York road-race walker and brickayers’ labourer.
It was so nice to see so many of his former work colleagues and sporting associates as well as all the family and friends that turned out from all over the country.
There were many interesting stories told both during and after the service.
It is my pleasure to inform you that the plate collection held after the service raised a magnificent £640 which means that Macmillan Nurses and the Marie Curie Trust will each receive cheques for £320.
Thank you once again for your generous donations – Ernie would have been proud.
G Cambridge, Chancellor Grove, York.
