JORDAN POTTER was the match-winner as Heworth under-12s held on for a 6-2 victory in a keenly-fought derby against York Acorn U12s.

The game was scoreless, with Heworth having been pinned back for much of the game, when Potter broke from near his own line to outpace the defence for a length-of-the-field score which Harry Deighton converted.

Both teams had earlier showed flashes of excellence in attack and had a few chances to score, but were held back by resolute defending.

Early in both halves, Heworth had to withstand sustained pressure as Acorn dominated, but, in the first half, the Villagers began to get into the game after strong running from Daniel Coulson and Peter Clarke, and, in the second, some big tackles from prop Ollie Murphy held their line intact.

Ben Barker and Ryan Stead ran Heworth out of trouble several times before the deadlock was broken through Potter.

Acorn did not give up and again applied pressure which was finally rewarded when Ryan Waters kicked a penalty, but the tense last ten minutes brought no more scores, with the spoils staying at Elmpark Way.

New Earswick U15s were pipped 24-22 in a ding-dong game at home to Knottingley.

Man of the match Nathan Tupman was awesome throughout, closely followed by Craig Richardson for his pace and tackling and Joe Hudson, who played to the best of his ability despite sporting an injury.

All Blacks' tries were scored by Sam Colley, Joe Hudson and Haiden Barber.

Solid defence helped York Acorn U15s beat a powerful Doncaster Toll Bar side. Acorn fell behind after 20 minutes but hard-working man of the match Tom Carlos levelled and, from then on, Acorn controlled the game with excellent displays coming from Josh Mortimer, Josh Peacock, Mathew Winn, Stu Leeke, Dave Jefferson and Tyler Dawson.

Try scorers were Dawson (2), Carlos (2) and Leeke, while Antony Chilton (2) and Dawson added goals.

Joe Friend and Abudi Salhab scored two tries apiece as New Earswick All Black U12s won 42-12 at Drighlington. Other tries came from Jordan Bracewell, Tom Smith and man of the match Brad Fillingham.

Heworth U11s lost 22-8 to a more experienced and physical Crigglestone.

They had got back to 8-8 at half time with a brace by man of the match Richard Ahston. Top tackler was James Dunhill, while the team award went to Lewis Hartley.

In their previous game, James Dunhill scored four tries as Heworth U11s battled in vain in a 34-24 defeat by Upton. Liam Forshaw also crossed, while Nathan Hammerton and Lewis Hartley added goals.

Josh Rogerson scored four tries as Heworth U8s A' team gave another improved display away to Crigglestone.

Man of the match Maxwell Carry and top tackler Jack Shore were to the fore in driving the hosts back, while elusive running when in possession created several tries. Sam Young (3), Jack Shore (2), Henri Grimbley and Maxwell Carry joined Rogerson on the scoresheet, while Toby Latham was the most improved player.

Four tries, superb defensive work and some brilliant runs saw Luke Adamson awarded man of the match in New Earswick U9s' game against Dudley Hill.

Top tackler Luke Hodgson was outstanding in defence and also scored two tries. George Leatt ran and tackled well and scored a try which earned him the most improved award. Will Ireland also touched down, made some good yards and was strong in defence as All Blacks battled on despite having no subs to call on.
