ACOMB clinched the York Conservative Clubs’ Faber Shield Billiards League title with a 4-2 victory over defending champions Heworth.
Acomb’s first championship win since 2002 ended Heworth’s six-year hold on the crown.
Gary Rogers won the first frame with breaks of 73, 38 and 41, but Trevor Ventress and the unbeaten Paul Holmes (32 break) moved Acomb 2-1 ahead.
Brian Birch levelled but Richard Lillie, playing only his second match, decided the match for Acomb.
With one fixture outstanding, Acomb are eight points ahead of Bootham ‘B’, who were 4-2 winners at Fulford.
Ian Robinson and Paul Mahoney gave them an ideal start, only for Fulford’s Alan Reed and Terry Ward (50, 50 breaks) to level.
Matt Smith won the last game and ensured Bootham won the aggregate point.
