I have never been a fan of David Cameron, believing him to be a Tory version of Tony Blair, all style but no substance.

He appears to lack any real political conviction, rather being driven by a series of perceived populist conceptions such as the ring-fencing of foreign aid and the issue of gay marriage.

His government is also developing a nasty habit of deferring decisions on vital issues such as London’s airport capacity, nuclear power and an EU referendum whilst proceeding with HS2 which is likely to prove the greatest white elephant in a generation.

However, on our bankrupt economy, I cannot agree with the hypocrisy and double standards of his many critics, including a number of recent letters.

It is also worth remembering that the Labour Party has a woeful history of mismanaging the economy when in government.

The main difference being that, before Blair, they usually only enjoyed one term in office.

This time, of course, they had three. The consequences will be felt by us all for many, many years.
