More than £15,000 will be invested in a North Yorkshire charity so that art can be used to support people suffering with isolation, mental health problems and domestic abuse.

In total, £15,900 has been awarded to Rural Arts by the Lloyds TSB Foundation For England And Wales.

The money will be used to fund the running costs of the organisation which works with people with complex needs.

It provides them with access to activities such as creative writing and digital arts allowing them to build their confidence and self esteem.

Rural Arts provides workshops in media skills and visual and performing arts to communities where cultural services are poor or non-existent.

The charity also offers a programme of live theatre performances in rural communities.

Angela Hall, director of Rural Arts, said: “This grant will help us support those suffering from complex needs.

“Through our programme, we have seen many people improve their sense of wellbeing and confidence, even going on to become volunteers themselves and gaining mentoring skills.”

The Lloyds TSB Foundation For England And Wales provides support for charities which help disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community.
