AN edition of The Press which reported on celebrations to mark York’s 800th anniversary has gone into a time capsule which will be buried in the city walls.
People were invited at the weekend to bring a small object, personal to them and their experience of York, to the York Explore Library.
The Press article from July 10 last year reported how hundreds of people had marched through the streets in full song as part of the York 800 celebrations.
Other items donated included a union card, clothing name-tags for a family’s children and a bottle of perfume, brought in by a woman who said it had been her late mother’s favourite scent.
The items were placed in a large clay pot, commissioned from artist and York Stories 2012 curator Kane Cunningham, which will be buried in the foundations of the bar walls to be uncovered again in 2212 when the city celebrates 1,000 years of self- government.
