Crescent ‘B’ have climbed off the bottom of the division one table in the Northern Powergrid York and District Table Tennis League after a 10-0 thrashing of a two-man University ‘A’, who replace them at the foot of the table.

Crescent ‘B’ also picked up valuable points as they went down 7-3 to RI ‘B’, for whom Filip Wojtkowiak and Rich Crowther were unbeaten, and lost by the same score to Holgate ‘A’, who had Graham Hatfield and Aidan Ranftler to thank.

Leaders Coneysthorpe ‘A’ marched on with a 9-1 thrashing of Holgate ‘A’. Martin Lowe remains unbeaten this season, and he was well supported by Ashley Hodgson, who like Lowe, did not drop a game.

Jim Mills guided Bootham ‘A’ to a narrow win over RI ‘B’, while Mills, Jon Wooldridge and Jo Suchecki ensured a whitewash of University ‘A’.

In division two, RI ‘D’ proved too good for Bootham ‘D’ in a 7-3 victory, Jonathan Chabry unbeaten, including an 11-9 doubles success in the final game, and he was aided by Matty Graham who turned in his best performance of the season.

The losers went down by the same score to Bootham ‘C’, Mike Cooper and Dave Rawlings playing well.

Bootham ‘D’s prospects of escaping relegation received a boost, however, when they were awarded nine points for an unfulfilled fixture with RI ‘F’, who failed to field a side.

Without Chabry, RI ‘D’ crashed 10-0 to top team RI ‘C’, with Rich McCarthy, Tim Smith and Philippe Leopold all successful.

Tramways have won only two of their last ten games and are facing a relegation battle. They were derailed 8-2 by a resurgent Shepherds ‘B’, Andy Fletcher on top.

RI ‘E’ are battling hard for second spot, and saw off Bootham ‘C’ 7-3 thanks to a fine display from Mark Blackburn.

Bootham ‘B’ are their closest pursuers, and they won by a similar score in a clash with Shepherds ‘C’, though they found John Flintoft unbeatable.

In division three, RI ‘H’ are facing the drop after crashing 8-2 to a Pete Taylor-inspired Holgate ‘D’ in their relegation battle.

The winners fought out a draw with Bootham ‘E’, for whom Richard Collyer was unbeaten.

BT ‘B’ are also in trouble after going down narrowly to BT ‘A’.
