WORLD number one Greg Harlow and John Webster were in top form at New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club as they booked their places in the UK Bowls Challenge Grand Final.

The Huntington Road venue is staging a series of qualifying events and the second tournament attracted a high-quality entry list.

In group one, Webster remained unbeaten to book his place in the final four.

New Earswick’s Bill Waldie was in a three-way points tie for second place, but had to settle for third place as Steve Green pipped him on aggregate score.

The second group included Harlow and former England international Trevor Taylor, giving home club duo Ralph Tiplady and Dave Sykes a tough task.

Taylor beat Harlow to take top spot in the group, but both went through to the last four.

Harlow was drawn against Green and was quickly into his stride, winning 17-4.

Taylor and Webster traded shots right up to the 12th end, when it was tied at 9-9.

Webster gained the all-important shot on the extra end to join Harlow in the Grand Final on March 17, where the winner takes home £3,000.

A second session the following day was postponed due to severe weather warnings.

The next scheduled rounds are Sunday, February 23 and Sunday, March 3.
