A NORTH Yorkshire man paralysed in an horrific motorbike crash has returned home after nearly six months in hospital and has pledged to spend his life helping other injured people.
Nic Kane, 20, from Sand Hutton, near Thirsk, was left paralysed from the chest down with limited use of his arms after a car pulled out in front of his motorbike near Northallerton last summer.
For some time, his distraught parents did not know whether he would survive, but after months spent recovering in hospital, he has moved back home and vowed to get on with his life.
Mr Kane said: “I am now looking at going into peer support for spinal injury patients. Any question you ask about my injuries I will answer. It is so much easier to talk to someone who has been through it, I know the reality of what it is like.
“It is like more doors have been opened for me, I believe I am a much stronger person.”
An appeal to raise £10,000 for a special all terrain wheelchair so Mr Kane can get around independently has had a huge response.
