COUNCILLORS have approved a £10,000 grant which will be used to carry out crucial work on an historic North Yorkshire chapel.
The listed chapel at Allerton Castle, between York and Knaresborough, has been on English Heritage’s Buildings At Risk register for many years.
But the funding from Harrogate Borough Council will now help the Gerald Arthur Rolph Foundation, which maintains it, make urgent repairs, as likely funding from English Heritage will not be enough to cover the necessary work.
