YORK Cubs booked their place in the semi-finals of the York FA Junior Minor (Under-13s) Cup with a 3-2 home win over Copmanthorpe.

The waterlogging on Knavesmire finally subsided to allow the much-postponed game to go ahead and Cubs came out on top.

After a lively start Ralph Sinclair opened the scoring for York Cubs, but Copmanthorpe hit back before half-time with a free-kick strike by Zak Lawrence. Cubs again forged ahead after the break when Noah Hindle finished off a good move with a shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

Again, Copmanthorpe fought back with a well-worked goal down the right-hand side finished by Joe Stilgoe.

The game was decided in Cubs’ favour thanks to an excellent free-kick by David Barber, which went in off the underside of the crossbar.

Cubs’ reward is a home semi-final tie against Wigginton Grasshoppers on Sunday, March 3 (11am). The winner will face either Rawcliffe or Tadcaster Albion in the final.

All the draws for the junior FA cup semi-finals have been made.

Wigginton Grasshoppers host Dringhouses in the last four of the York FA U19s Cup on Sunday, March 3 (1.30pm).

The other semi-final sees Rawcliffe take on visitors Strensall.

York Cubs travel to Pocklington Town Predators in the York FA Intermediate (Senior) U15s Cup on the same date, with Wheldrake hosting Bishopthorpe White Rose in the second semi-final.

The York FA U11s Junior Cup will be played on the same day, with Tadcaster Magnet Blues at home to Poppleton Tigers, and Wigginton Grasshoppers travelling to Pocklington Town.

The semi-finals of the U16s, U14s and U12s competitions will be played on Sunday, March 10 (see panel).
