A GREAT- GRANDFATHER from York is today marking his hundredth birthday.
Alan Clarke, of the Boroughbridge Road area of the city, will celebrate his landmark birthday with 60 friends, family and neighbours at a lunch event this weekend.
Mr Clarke worked as a frame fitter for the RAF for many years before going to work for the Co-operative in York.
His daughter-in-law, Pat, said he believed the secret to his long life was remaining active and doing everything in moderation.
He was married to his wife, Caroline “Maysie” May, for 70 years before she passed away two years ago.
The couple had one son, David, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr Clarke is well known as a member of Acomb Methodist Church.
