AS BUSINESSES in York continue to struggle amid the UK’s tough economic conditions, there is a glimmer of hope for companies in the city’s construction sector.
A new industry-led campaign called Construction4Growth is spearheading a drive to get more investment in the industry’s jobs and skills as a way for us all to fight back against the recession.
Construction returns £2.84 to the economy for every £1 that is invested in it, so has the ability to boost the financial fortunes of the whole country, let alone York itself.
The campaign was set up by CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Industry Training Board and Sector Skills Council, but is being led by the industry and the people in it – from the biggest to the smallest firms who have signed up to the Construction4Growth pledge.
More than eight organisations in York and a further 60 in Yorkshire and the Humber have signed up already – and more than 900 across the country. But we need more.
So if you are interested in helping to safeguard the future of one of York’s greatest industries, please visit construction4growth.co.uk and make your voice heard.
