A CLEANER from Selby who was caught drink driving has been banned for 17 months.

Mariola Kostrzewa, of Wistow Road, appeared before Selby Magistrates’ Court accused of driving while over the legal limit.

The court heard Kostrzewa, 46, was seen by police officers driving a Volvo V50 with a damaged front tyre on Scott Road at about five or ten miles per hour, on Saturday, October 6.

Officers pulled her over and smelled alcohol on Kostrzewa. A roadside breath test showed she had 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. She was arrested and taken to Selby Police Station.

Damien Morrison, for Kostrzewa, said she had been drinking the previous night due to concerns over an upcoming, unrelated court appearance.

He said: “She had been drinking on Friday, and felt the effects of that on Saturday morning.

“She had two beers at lunchtime to make herself feel better.”

Mr Morrison told the court Kostrzewa was a self-employed cleaner who relied on her car for travelling between jobs, but said she accepted she was over the limit and pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Magistrates disqualified Kostrzewa for 17 months, fined her £1,400, and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £120.
