Winner: Dunnington Primary School
Runners up: Lord Deramore’s Primary School and Poppleton Ousebank Primary School
These were all projects deemed to have made a positive impact to their local community.
Poppleton Ousebank’s animal centre - which is home to rabbits, ducks, a dog and pygmy goat to name a few – has proved to be a very popular project.
Judges were moved by the incredible efforts of Lord Deramore’s Primary School to help pay for the £250,000 cancer treatment overseas for fellow pupil, and child of the year winner, Jamie Inglis.
The winner of this category, Dunnington C of E Primary School was really felt by judges to have made a positive difference to its surroundings and environment with its gardening challenge competition, which has brightened up the village of Dunnington.
Caroline Gilderdale, of Dunnington C of E Primary School, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed it and it really made the school alive. They felt they were giving something to the communty.”
Judges felt that special recognition should also be given to Lord Deramore’s Primary School for the remarkable efforts of all the children, teachers and parents to support Jamie and his family in their fundraising. The Lord Mayor Coun Keith Hyman will make a visit to the school in honour of its efforts for Jamie.
