Why you should see Estempas Portenas in Tango Fire.

Where, when and why are they appearing in York?

Grand Opera House, on Tuesday, at 7.30pm, as part of their first full UK tour

Who are they?

Ten dancers - the girls with cleavages out there and cocktail dresses slashed up to here, the boys brooding in DJs, suits and black-and-white shoes - are accompanied by a quartet of young musicians for a night of sensual, steamy dance direct from where the tango began: the 19th century bars and brothels of Buenos Aires, in Argentina

What does the show involve?

Tango Fire takes you on an "irresistible journey" through the history of this South American dance form, complete with "kicking actions and some unbelievable trick drop-shots"

Who is in the company?

Dancers Nelson Celis and Yanina Fajar, Pablo Sosa and Mariela Maldonado, Ezequiel Hudyma and Paola Rodolfo, Luciano Capparelli and Rocio de los Santos, Mauricio Celis and Ines Cuesta; vocalist Diego Fama and the musicians of Quatrotango, Gabriel Clenar, on piano, Hugo Satorre, bandoneon, Marcelo Rebuffi, violin, Gerardo Scaglione, double bass. Artistic direction is by Argentine ballerina Carolina Soler, who founded Estempas Portenas in Buenos Aires in 1996

Has this company performed in Britain previously?

Yes, after touring China, Taiwan, Guatemala, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, Estempas Portenas made its Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut last year and returned to the Scottish capital this summer for a month of shows at the Assembly Rooms. York is one of only two Yorkshire dates on the autumn tour, the other being tomorrow at the Lyceum in Sheffield (tickets 0114 249 6000)

What have the critics said?

"The couples perform without any pretence at subtlety or innuendo. This is foreplay on the dancefloor", The List, Edinburgh
