The Digital Opera Ensemble will present A Sentimental Journey not only in the York Theatre Royal Studio but also to a global travelling audience on Wednesday night.
At present in research and development in York, the digital opera based on a Laurence Sterne book will be streamed on the internet to people around the world who will experience the new work in hotel lobbies, departure lounges and other places where journeys are happening. If you wish to join this audience, go to http://asj-live.blogspot.com/
Scored for an ensemble of four musicians, four laptops and an actor/singer, A Sentimental Journey will feature the improvising duo ev2, alias Craig Vear on percussion and Jonathan Eato, from the University of York music department, on saxophone. Alongside them will be Audrey Riley on cello, John Richards on bass and electronics and the Theatre Royal repertory actor Michael Lambourne on vocal duties.
The 7.45pm event will include an introductory talk by Patrick Wildgust, curator of the Laurence Sterne Trust at Shandy Hall, Coxwold, and a post-performance discussion.
