YORK dancers can play their part tomorrow afternoon in a nationwide attempt to break a world record.
As the centrepiece of Big Dance Week, dance classes will be organised throughout Britain, including the Yorkshire contingent of York, Leeds, Hull and Sheffield.
From 11.30am to 1.30pm, there is room for up to 1,000 dancers to join tutor Bobak Walker at Rowntree Park, York, as part of a chain of classes in which everyone will learn the same dance for performance at 12.30pm in a bid to set a new record for the world's biggest dance class.
The Sheriff of York, Richard Baldwin, will be in attendance, and so will Martin Barrass, the York Theatre Royal pantomime favourite noted for his ebullient skipping.
Anyone keen to participate must sign up in advance by telephoning the CSV Action Desk at BBC Radio York on 0845 3661066. Further information is available on the BBC Where I Live website at www.bbc.co.uk/york.
The Big Dance celebrations have been organised by Arts Council England in association with the BBC, whose live broadcast, Dancing In The Street, will be hosted by Bruce Forsyth and Zoe Ball on BBC1 at 6.25pm and 9.05pm.
