LESLEY Joseph and Sam Kane are to star in the menopausal musical Hot Flush! at the Grand Opera House, York, on Monday, April 6.

In a 7.30pm show billed as “the perfect girls’ night out” or “The Vagina Monologues meets Boogie Nights”, Myra, Sylvia, Helen and Jessica will share the secrets, laughter, tears and up and downs of four ordinary women living extraordinary lives.

Lesley Joseph, best known for Birds Of A Feather, stars as Myra, a divorced barrister who had considered herself a together sort of person… until she hit the menopause and her husband left her for the bimbo blonde.

Sylvia, played by Hilary O’Neil, has been married to Joe since she was 20 and has been bored with him since she was 21. Now she has decided that life is for living.

Anne Smith plays Helen, a widow whose only daughter has left for university. Feeling lonely, Helen tries to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack her at once.

Ruth Keeling is Jessica, who lives in the best house in the nicest street in town. Everything seemed perfect until her mid-life crisis began, but she is coping with the help of her friends and the vicar. She just wishes that the vicar could explain why, when God made man, he did not try a little harder?

Sam Kane, from Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, handles a manful handful of characters and all of the men in the women’s lives.

Tickets for this musical comedy cost £20 on 0844 847 2322.
