THE final production at Hull Truck Theatre’s Spring Street home opens on Thursday and the inevitable choice for the finale is John Godber’s most successful play of all, Bouncers.

From January 15 to February 14, for one last time the men in black will be bouncing around the stage in the converted church rooms before the company’s move to Ferensway in the spring.

Directed by artistic director Godber, the farewell production reassembles the seasoned cast of Hull Truck favourites from the nightclub comedy’s sold-out 30th anniversary run in 2007: Matthew Booth, Marc Bolton, Jack Brady and James Hornsby in the pivotal role of Lucky Eric.

As ever, the chosen four will be playing not only bouncers Lucky Eric, Les, Ralph and Judd but also birthday-girl Rosie, Sexy Suzie, big but nice Maureen and plain Elaine and the lager lads on the pull in a play selected as one of the Top 100 of the 20th century by the National Theatre.

Tickets for the extended final run went on sale on November 3 at £8.50 to £17.50 for January 15 to February 7, £25 for February 9 to 13, and £45 for the last public performance at Spring Street on February 14. Only a limited number remain available, especially during the final week when some “extra-special surprises” await audiences.

Evening shows start at 8pm (except Sundays), bolstered by 2pm matinees on January 28 and February 7, and a post-show talk-back with the director and his cast will take place on January 20. To check availability or to book tickets, ring 01482 323638.

Audiences attending in the final week will receive a special welcome and souvenir, and Hull Truck will use extra money generated by that week’s ticket sales to help support its work in the new building.

So far, more than £14.5 million has been raised towards the Ferensway theatre with support from Arts Council England, Hull City Council, the European Regional Development Fund and Yorkshire, and a further £500,000 will complete the fund-raising.

Designed by Wright & Wright, the theatre will incorporate a 440-seat main auditorium and a 134-seat studio theatre, an education suite, corporate facilities and café bars.
