IMPRESARIO Ellen Kent and Opera International present the Chisinau National Opera production of Tosca at the Grand Opera House, York, on June 10 at 7.30pm.
Premiered on January 14 1900, Puccini's opera has stood the test of time with its tragic story of betrayal and lust, love and lies, torture and treachery, and its moving arias Recondita Armonia, Vissi d'Arte and E Lucevan le Stelle.
The company is 170 strong with a full orchestra and international soloists including Natalia Margarit and Akhmed Agadi from the Stanislavski Opera in Moscow in the principal roles (both subject to change), while Moldovan baritone Vladimir Dragos will sing Scarpia.
Children from the Stagecoach Theatre Arts School have been invited to sing in Act One of the performance. One child, yet to be selected, will sing the solo part of the Shepherd Boy.
