IT is not too late to prove you are best Elvis act in town.

The Search For Elvis UK 07 comes to York tomorrow in the One Night Of Elvis - Return To Memphis show at the Grand Opera House.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the death of the King of Rock'n'Roll and the 50th anniversary of the birth of the Elvis Presley Fan Club, and the club has linked up with One Night Of Elvis to find the most talented Elvis tribute.

"Elvis tribute acts aged 18 or over are invited to come along to an audition between noon and 1pm tomorrow at the Grand Opera House, where a panel led by Vicky Molloy will choose the best three to perform in the first half of the evening show," says Todd Slaughter, of the Elvis Presley Fan Club.

"They don't need to bring Elvis costumes or sheet music, just themselves - and we're welcoming female Elvis acts too."

Each will do one number with the band during the tribute show, which stars Heath Ashton who was voted GMTV's Best Elvis five years ago, plus a live band, dancers and a compere. During the interval, audience members will vote for which Elvis they want to take part in the Grand Final at the Blackpool Opera House on June 23.

The winner will progress to a competition in Memphis in Elvis Week in August. The 15 regional heat winners, meanwhile, will be sent forward to this summer's BBC's Global Elvis talent contest, hosted by Vernon Kay.

One question, Todd: why do so many Elvis acts do the King in his podgy, white-suit phase? "It's the karaoke factor. You go to the pub, you sink eight pints and you try to do The Wonder of You!" he says.

Tickets: £16.50, £14.50, on 0870 606 3595.
