An immersive Doctor Who theatre experience featuring Daleks, Cybermen and Time Lords will launch in London next year.

Doctor Who: Time Fracture will transport audience members to 1940 during the Blitz where a mysterious weapon destroys a small corner of Mayfair and opens a rift in space and time.

Enlisted by the Unified Intelligence Task Force (Unit), the audience will visit “impossible places, confronting menacing monsters and ancient aliens along the way”, organisers say.

The original story arc will also allow guests to meet a character from Time Lord Victorious, BBC Studios’ new multi-platform story.

The show comes from Immersive Everywhere, the team behind the long-running immersive theatre production of The Great Gatsby, and is licensed by BBC Studios.

Also on board are director Tom Maller, who worked on Secret Cinema’s productions of Casino Royale, 28 Days Later and Blade Runner, writer Daniel Dingsdale, whose credits include Stardust and The Drop Off, and BBC consultant James Goss, who worked on Torchwood.

Maller said: “We are incredibly excited to be at the creative helm of this project.

“It has been an enjoyable experience already, working with BBC Studios to make sure Doctor Who: Time Fracture not only meets the extremely high expectations of fans, but exceeds them.”

Dingsdale said: “Drawing from the rich legacy of Doctor Who, which spans over half a century, we are creating an adventure that will entertain both fans that have immersed themselves in the show’s universe for years, and audience members who will walk in from the street having never seen an episode.

“It’s going to be an absolute blast.”

Louis Hartshorn, joint chief executive of Immersive Everywhere, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with BBC Studios to bring the incredible universe of Doctor Who to life in a way that only immersive theatre can.

“We can’t wait for audiences to step into the world of The Doctor, and find themselves closer to the action than ever before, in this expansive and ambitious new show.

“Based on everything we know now, we are confident that Doctor Who: Time Fracture will be able to go ahead as planned in early 2021 and will be taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our audiences and full creative team.”

Time Fracture will take place at Immersive LDN, a former military drill hall dating back to 1890, from February 17 2021 to April 11 2021, and will adhere to social distancing measures.

There will be a free preview for care workers on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tickets can be pre-ordered by purchasing a Gallifreyan Coin token online. General sale begins at 10am on Thursday August 20.
