PREPARE to be dazzled by three stunning nights of opera in Llandudno next year.

International opera company the Welsh National Opera (WNO) will return to Venue Cymru in April to celebrate the timeless librettos and arias of Mozart, Verdi and Donizetti.

A highly esteemed opera company, the WNO aims to bring all the power, drama and raw emotion of opera to as wide an audience as possible, which each performance sung in Italian, with English and Welsh subtitles.

Starting on Wednesday, April 24 with a collisions of Love, power and politics in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, witness the real life assassination of King Gustav III of Sweden rendered in towering song.

The score is one of Verdi’s most intense, providing the musical passion that drives this thrilling new production which Gwyn Hughes Jones leads the cast as in this tale of deception, intrigue, love and revenge.

The following evening, will see the troupe’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute which tells of how the mysterious Queen of the Night coaxes Prince Tamino into rescuing her beautiful daughter from the grip of an evil enchanter.

With an enchanted flute and a set of magic bells for protection, he sets off on his journey - but as he overcomes a series of challenges, it becomes apparent that all is not what it seems. Will he complete his quest and find true love?

To cap off a trio of incredible productions, join the WNO for Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux on Friday, April 26 which contains some of the composer’s most spine-tingling melodies – such as the emotional Vivi, in Grato, a Lei Accanto- an unforgettable, heart wrenching finale.

Roberto Devereux has been accused of treason. In order to gain his freedom he simply has to present the ring his lover, Queen Elizabeth I, has bestowed upon him.

But Devereux is secretly in love with Sara, who he refuses to renounce, leaving Elizabeth heartbroken and compelled to sign his death warrant.

For a refreshing spin on the traditional form, take your pick from these three wonderful productions, each starting at 7.30pm, with free pre-performance talks for ticket holders at each show beginning at 6pm.
