Daniel Bruhl’s role in Captain America: Civil War has been unveiled, according to reports.
A casting call by Movie Casting Call indicated that the Rush star is tipped to play the nefarious Baron Helmut Zemo in the upcoming third instalment of Marvel’s superhero series.
The news has not been confirmed by Marvel, who had been keeping his role under wraps. But fans have already voiced their glee at the potential casting.
Daniel, who has also starred in The Fifth Estate and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, is rumoured to play the young Baron Zemo, who inherits his Nazi scientist father Heinrich’s legacy of trying to save the world. In the Civil War, he makes an uneasy alliance with Tony Stark with ulterior motives.
Chris Evans will reprise his superhero role as Captain America/Steve Rogers in the third film, alongside returning co-stars Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan. Robert Downey Jr will appear as Iron Man/Tony Stark, while Chadwick Boseman will portray Black Panther.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige previously said: “With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes.”
Captain America: Civil War, directed again by filmmaking brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, will be released in the UK on April 29, 2016.
