Bond villain Julian Glover has been presented with a CBE by the Prince of Wales.

The 78-year-old actor said the honour was a "vote of confidence" for a 60-year career that has included roles in Star Wars, Indiana Jones and opposite Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only.

After receiving the medal, he said: "It's the most extraordinary thing to happen.

"I was absolutely gobsmacked when I heard about it, but then you hear about all the people that have been doing it for you over the last few weeks and months and you realise you must have done something right in your life.

"It's a vote of confidence from everybody you know, which is simply wonderful. I'm thrilled."

He added: "I know His Royal Highness from before - my wife and I spent a weekend with him and the Duchess of Cornwall, and I said 'Sir, we desperately want to see you again. I know we aren't allowed to ask you to dinner'."

"And he said 'Yes, you can, yes, you can. We'll fix something'. So when I saw him today he said 'Well done' and I replied 'Well, sir, I made it'.

"Unfortunately I have a show this evening. The maddening thing is, if ever a chap deserves a drink, it's if he gets a CBE, and I can't have one. And I've got two shows tomorrow but Sunday will be good - a few bevvies will be taken, I think."

Julian has featured most recently on the small screen as Grand Maester Pycelle in the hit HBO series Game Of Thrones, based on the fantasy novels by George RR Martin.
