VAN driver and musician Clark Howard certainly knows how to deliver the goods.

The Sainsbury’s worker - drummer with York indie rock group Hungry Ghosts - is also lead singer for new York party band Undercovered.

Kennedy’s, in Little Stonegate, York, was the latest venue to be treated to the talented covers band on Sunday night.

Joining Howard on backing vocals was Corinne Saunders with Neil Balfour on keyboards, Olly Watkins on guitar, Ollie Brown on bass and Alex Bamford on drums.

Front man Howard oozes confidence on stage and his vibrant and dynamic performance was lapped up by the packed Kennedys crowd. He knows how to work the audience and DOES he know how to sing! It's a pity Tom Jones and his fellow judges on The Voice weren't there to see it.

The hour-and-a-half set was crammed full of classics from the last 50 years – from the Rolling Stones' Brown Sugar and Elton John’s Crocodile Rock to Jessie J’s Pricetag and Cee Lo Green’s Forget You.

The diverse mix of songs and styles tested Howard’s vocal range to the limit, especially the high notes on Video Killed The Radio Star, but he tackled them with ease. Is there nothing he can't sing? Madness, Queen, Take That, The Stereophonics and Amy Winehouse all got the Undercovered treatment. Saunders went solo to cover Donna Summer’s Hot Stuff and Britney Spears’ Toxic, but it would have been interesting to hear Howard's take on those two.

Highlights were spirited renditions of The Kaiser Chiefs' Ruby, Ruby, Ruby and The Kings Of Leon’s Sex On Fire which had the exuberant audience shouting along with the choruses. The set ended with a rousing version of The Killers’ Mr Brightside which had everyone cheering for more.

An encore of The Kings of Leon’s Somebody and Journey’s aptly named Don’t Stop Believing brought the night to a close... don’t stop believing guys as you’ve got what it takes to go all the way.
