Just A Very Quickie with David Essex, singer, actor, diamond geezer.

You've been busy in the West End playing the Reverend Moore in Footloose at the Novello Theatre until September 9, and this week you're opening your first tour for two years. How are you feeling?

"I'm looking forward to the tour and playing some songs from the new CD. Footloose was terrific to do but it'll be good to get back on the road."

Your career has combined concerts, records, theatre, composing, film and television, but what has been your proudest moment?

"When each of my children was born."

You have just released a new album, Beautiful Day. How have you managed to find the time to write and record while also appearing on stage?

"It wasn't easy. Not much sleep but I am pleased with the new songs and hope they're received well on the tour. The album has more of a live feel than some of the recent ones."

When you aren't busy writing, recording, touring or acting, what do you like to do to relax and where do you like to go?

"I like to travel; I enjoy watching and playing sport."

While on the subject of travel, what do you think of the Yorkshire area?

"I've visited it many times - I like it a lot. It's a big county with many things to offer."

You're playing York on Wednesday. What's your ideal night out?

"A show maybe and dinner. I've never been a fan of clubbing."

And finally, what next for you after the tour finishes?

"A well-deserved rest first, then working on a new stage production for next year."
