SCOTTISH singer-songwriter KT Tunstall will play the Grand Opera House, York, on Sunday, November 6 on 13-date British and Irish solo tour this autumn.

Tickets go on pre-sale tomorrow at 9am from kttunstalltickets.sandbag.uk.com and on general sale from Friday at 10am on 0844 871 3024 or 0844 811 0051 or online at grandoperahouseyork.org.uk or gigsandtours.com, priced at £20.

KT’s announcement comes on the heels of her sold-out American solo tour this spring and the subsequent release of her acoustic mini-album, The Scarlet Tulip EP, a raw, stripped-back companion piece to last October’s “nature-techno” album, Tiger Suit.

“This EP is a really special body of work for me,” said KT. “It’s the first time since I was very young that I’ve set about recording just my voice with finger-picked guitar. Six of the seven songs came into being during the year I spent writing for Tiger Suit; Hidden Heart was a song written for Bruce Parry’s Survival project, to try and gain land protection for indigenous people of the Amazon.”

The Scarlet Tulip folk-roots songs were recorded completely live in one take by KT’s husband, drummer and co-producer Luke Bullen in their solar-powered studio in the woods of the English countryside.

“I felt a creative need to do something impulsive and autonomous,” said KT. “So this EP is partly to celebrate embarking on my first major solo tour, but also to get the songs out there into the ether as I’ve always felt there’s something special about sending new songs off into the world as soon as they’re done. There’s something magical about it.”

Opening in Belfast on October 27 and ending up in Glasgow on November 13, the autumn tour will find KT performing in the most intimate venues she has played for many years, including a second Yorkshire gig at the Holmfirth Picturedrome on November 7.

The BRIT Award-winning singer, now 35, last played in York in February 2005, when promoting her debut album, Eye To The Telescope, in a short set at Fibbers.

In November, her set list will comprise songs from her extensive back catalogue, as well as a handful of tracks from The Scarlet Tulip EP, played with the help of her trusted loop pedals, drum machines, tambourines, keyboards and any other instruments that come to hand along the way.

The EP is available on digital download, CD and 10” vinyl via kttunstall.com and also will be sold on the merchandise stalls on tour.
