THE York Schools Music Festival takes place at the Grand Opera House, York, this weekend.

Organised by Tim Brooks, music consultant in City Of York Council’s arts and culture department, the event involves rehearsals from 9.30am to 1pm and performances from 2pm to 4.30pm tomorrow and Sunday.

Tomorrow’s running order opens with a rock band from Acomb Primary, Dringhouses Primary, Poppleton Ousebank Primary and Millthorpe Secondary schools, followed by St Aelred’s RC Primary School (choir); St Lawrence’s CE Primary School (after-school music making); Park Grove Primary School (choirs); and Robert Wilkinson Primary School (orchestra).

After the interval come performances by Lord Deramore Primary School (orchestra); Huntington Primary School (choir, ocarina group and samba band); Skelton Primary School (choir); and Manor Secondary School (band and choir).

Sunday’s programme begins with Poppleton Ousebank Primary School (rock band, junk band and dancers), followed by Haxby Road Primary School (choir); Clifton with Rawcliffe Primary School (choir); Acomb Primary School (African drummers); and Joseph Rowntree Secondary School (choir).

Post-interval, the show continues with Hemplands Primary School (orchestra); Wigginton Primary School (strings, stomp group and choir); Dringhouses Primary School (choir and recorders); and Canon Lee Secondary School (singing club).
