FOLK fiddler and singer Eliza Carthy leads her band on the first night of her six-date December tour at Pocklington on Thursday night.

The Scarborough-born musician, the daughter of folk greats Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, remains the figurehead of the folk revival that continues to go from strength to strength.

Last year Eliza released her second album of original material, Dreams Of Breathing Underwater, a tour de force of Carthy musicianship that featured strings, brass, drums, guitar and synthesisers, topped off by her rich voice.

Here’s hoping Eliza will play her song about a dodgy Edinburgh landlord looking for love, Mr Magnifico, the ethereal Lavenders, the salty Little Bigman and the drunk and disorderly Oranges And Seasalt.

Eliza Carthy, Pocklington Arts Centre, December 3, 8pm. Tickets are still available at £17 on 01759 301547 or online at pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
