YORK Musical Theatre Company will follow up last year's hit musical Annie and original devised show Something Wonderful by exploring the masters of Broadway musicals, John Kander and Fred Ebb, this spring.

Directed by Paul Laidlaw, The World Goes 'Round will be staged at the John Cooper Studio Theatre @41Monkgate, York, from May 23 to 26. "This show is a rollercoaster ride, celebrating some of the pair’s best loved songs and most brilliant and well-crafted numbers," says cast member and publicist Anna Mitchelson.

"These range from unforgettable classics such as Mr Cellophane, Maybe This Time and All That Jazz to thrilling up-tempo numbers Coffee In A Cardboard Cup and Money, Money, not forgetting the title song that became a hit for the global star of many Kander and Ebb musicals, Liza Minnelli."

Composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb forged one of the longest-running and most successful creative partnerships in Broadway history, their bold, brassy style making them enormously popular and providing the style for provocative musicals such as Cabaret, Chicago, and Kiss Of The Spider Woman. The duo won their first Tony Award for the 1966 score of Cabaret, a show that also was named best musical of the season. The 1972 film version received multiple Academy Awards, including Liza Minnelli's Oscar for Best Actress.

The World Goes 'Round is packed with love songs, torch songs, and witty comic numbers. "The show was conceived by director Scott Ellis, choreographer Susan Stroman and librettist David Thompson and opened off-Broadway in 1991, receiving critical acclaim and numerous award nominations," says Anna. "It won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical and went on to win three Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Musical Revue."

Anna will be joined in next month's cast by Matthew Ainsworth, Richard Bainbridge, Alexa Chaplin, John Haigh, Jessa Liversidge and Flo Taylor.Tickets cost £15 on 01904 623568 or at thelittleboxoffice.com/ymtc.
