FOLK ambassadors Show Of Hands are to play Beverley Minster on October 31 on their Sanctuary tour of English cathedrals this autumn.

From October 4 to December 1, singer-songwriter Steve Knightley and multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer will be joined by double bass player  Miranda Sykes as they travel the length and breadth of England to "fill our most ancient and iconic buildings with the sound of the people".

Knightley says: "In 2010 we played a few landmark cathedrals, and it just worked. There’s something about the ambience, sanctity and rich history of a cathedral that lends itself perfectly to what we do. It’s going to be a really special tour. We’ll be bringing out some of the classics of course, but we’re also excited to be able to showcase brand new material in truly unique settings.”

Knightley and Beer, who have a knack for spotting a future star, have picked the dramatic yet introspective singer-songwriter Kirsty Merryn to be their special guest on the Sanctuary tour.

Tickets for October 31's 7.30pm concert are on sale at showofhands.co.uk/events/beverley-minster-show-of-hands/

By the way, Beverley Minster is "not quite a cathedral", but is one of the largest parish churches in the country, larger than one third of the cathedrals.
