MUSICAL collaborations between members of bands that seem so diverse always makes for interesting listening, a fact demonstrated by The Orange Lights at Fibbers on Wednesday.

Formed by ex-Spiritualized guitarist Jason Hart and Paul Tucker, keyboard player and principal singer-songwriter in The Lighthouse Family, you don't get more far removed in style than blissed-out psychedelia and the smoothest of soul.

Yet this is a marriage made in musical heaven, though unfortunately only 30 or so people were witness to this at the York venue.

The Orange Lights have a very Verve-like sound to their songs, with touches of Echo And The Bunnymen thrown into the mix.

But their sound is their own; a mellow, relaxed vibe with a gorgeous combination of acoustic and electric guitars that gel into beautiful melodies, and dreamy vocals which touch the soul, telling of love and life.

One of the main themes that seems to recur throughout many of the vocals is the sun, and as such, this chilled out, sunshine music would fit in perfectly at an early evening festival slot.

First single Let The Love Back In takes the listener on a journey from sunshine to rain and back again, with stark keyboards overlaid with lush guitar riffs; and The Explanation, which Hart introduced by saying "this song is going to sound amazing", is just beautiful, with touching lyrics and soaring guitars.

Forget your emo or post-punk - this is the perfect sound of the summer, and what music is all about.
