MUSICAL North Yorkshire teenagers are looking forward to a unique vocal and stagecraft workshop with a member of a choral supergroup before Saturday's concert at York Minster.

The newly formed Chapter House Youth Choir will be launched at the 7.30pm performance by the Chapter House Choir and the The King’s Singers, who will be making their first appearance in York for more than a decade.

The choir has been formed to inspire the next generation of choral singers and brings together young people aged 13 to 18 under the leadership of young choral director Charlie Gower-Smith, who lives in Ripon.

The members, Anna Marshall, Anna Robinson, Eloise Johnston, Macy Raine, Joy Sutcliffe, Archie Sladden, Max Auty, Daniel Hicks, Genevieve Hawes, Lily Dowdy, Olivia Robinson, Matilda Auty, Jenny King, Claudia Freeman, Elizabeth Tighe and Rosalind Cooper, are drawn from York, Ripon and across the region.

They will be led by a member of The King's Singers in the afternoon mentoring and coaching session, as Chapter House Choir chairman Claire Duckworth explains: "The young people will have the amazing opportunity of taking part in a workshop with a member of The King's Singers on the day.

"They'll be getting an insight into how professional choral singers approach rehearsals; doing some work on effective choral singing technique, as well as receiving hints and tips for communicating with an audience, something for which The King's Singers are renowned."

One highlight of Saturday's concert will be the world premiere of a new choral piece, Everyone Suddenly Burst Out Singing, by singer/composer Roderick Williams: three interlocking pieces inspired by a line from Siegfried Sassoon's poem Everyone Sang, Laurence Binyon’s poem For the Fallen, and the words from the Latin mass petitioning for peace.

Tickets for An Evening With The King's Singers are available from York Theatre Royal in person, on 01904 623568 or at yorkminster.org/box-office.html
