Wrapping: Three ships sailing under a star, simple yet effective.
Style: A folk Christmas delight, with ageless instrumentals, duets and the occasional well-known song.
Content: 14 songs stretching out over an economical 38 minutes. Mostly Durrant, an errant classical guitarist now entirely lost to roots music and allegedly leaving on a beach near Brighton. The duets come from pure-toned Amy Kakoura.
'Tis the reason to be jolly: The playing is superb, tastefully and lovingly presented, and you can almost feel the centuries yawn on the wonderfully evocative Personent Hodie.
Scrooge moan: Nary a note out of place, this is almost too well done and reverential. A pint or two before the final mix would have helped.
White Christmas? No, but an authentic ukulele cover of Fairytale Of New York works much better.
Blue Christmas? These are all songs of a melancholy order, brimful of history so you can truly feel the weight of the world at times.
Stocking or shocking? Stocking definitely. Hopefully York's Black Swan Folk Club will wake up together on Christmas morning, disentangle and stick this on.
