AS part of the celebrations to mark the king of rock'n'roll's 80th anniversary, The Elvis Years tribute show is on its winter tour, and for one night it will be shaking up York Barbican on Thursday.

The 7.30pm concert performance features Mario Kombou, the original lead in Jailhouse Rock in the West End, and his band, led by the Ivor Novello award-winning Australian producer and musical director David Mackay.

The Elvis Years combines authentic costumes and rare film footage with more than 50 of Elvis Presley's greatest songs, such as Hound Dog, It’s Now Or Never, Just Can’t Help Believing, That’s Alright Mama, Suspicious Minds and American Trilogy, as well as the lesser-known likes of Rock A Hula Baby and Bossa Nova Baby.

Singer and actor Mario Kombou has been performing his Elvis act for more than 20 years, not least playing Elvis's character, Vince Everett, in Jailhouse Rock.

"2015 has already been an incredible year for us and our fans," he says. "Just a few highlights are bringing the story of Elvis’s life to 80 different venues across the UK, to mark such a special birthday, and to return once again to the West End for an unforgettable sell-out show.

"The five-star reviews were the icing on the birthday cake. Our show just keeps on going from strength to strength and we’re so excited about our autumn and winter tour dates.”

Kombou, winner of the Images Of The King competition in 2005 in Memphis, Tennessee, is the only tribute artist in the world to have been officially endorsed by Donna Presley, Elvis’s first cousin, as well as by Elvis Presley Enterprises. "He's the best Elvis since Elvis," she said.

Kombou once sang the National Anthem at Twickenham rugby stadium to 50,000 people; his musical director, David Mackay, has produced hits for Dusty Springfield, The Bee Gees, Eric Clapton and Cliff Richard.
