SLEAFORD Mods, the minimalist electronic post-punk/hip hop duo from Nottingham, roll into The Duchess in York tonight.
Vocalist Jason Williamson and musician Andrew Robert Lindsay Fearn started out in 2006, forming the Mods partly out of frustration and partly by accident and soon finding their feet as an “aggressive verbal onslaught on all that is contrived and connected to the day-to-day hammer of low-paid employment and domestic situations arising from that trap”.
Latest album Divide And Exit was released last April to acclaim from Wire, Uncut, the Guardian, NME and Dazed And Confused as Williamson and Fearn created a lurid, livid portrait of a country that’s not right in its head, but goes on barking as if it were still top dog all the same.
Doors open at 7.30pm; tickets are available on 0844 477 1000 and online at theduchessyork.co.uk
