THE York Late Music Concert Series committee will hold a free launch day with art, music, poetry and film at the Unitarian Church, St Saviourgate, York on February 28.

The day will be in two parts, beginning at 1pm with a lunchtime concert by Sounds Lyrical, a group of York composers and poets that works together to create new poetry and new songs. Baritone Ben Lindley and pianist Jo Peach will perform songs by Gershwin, Kurt Weill, Elgar, Britten and Schubert and by Sounds Lyrical composers David Power, David Lancaster and Tim Brooks.

Poetry readings at this event will be by Sounds Lyrical poets Andy Humphrey, Alan Gillott, Rose Drew and Lizzi Linklater. “These readings will be followed immediately by the musical settings of these poems, so that the concert will appeal to music lovers, poetry lovers and also those interested in insights into the creative process itself,” says David Power.

At 7pm, the Vestiges multi-media group will present a pop-up version of their music, art and film installation lasting 45 minutes. This will comprise a seven-track spatially projected piece of music by Power and Lancaster, artwork by Linda Ingham and a new slow-moving film of the Inner Hebrides island of Jura, shot by guest filmmaker Sean Martin.

“The installation pop-up will be topped and tailed by two short piano performances by Edward Caine, giving us some glimpses of the music to be played in the Late Music Concert Series itself, and the whole event will last a little over an hour,” says Power, the launch day organiser.

“We’re delighted to welcome poets, artists and film-makers to the Late Music Launch Day in what we hope will be a relaxing but fascinating day. There will be wine and nibbles and both events are free, making it an ideal way to catch up with old friends, experience some intriguing work and find out what Late Music 2015 has to offer.”

The 2015 York Late Music Concert Series will take place at the Unitarian Church, St Saviourgate on the first Saturday of the month from March to October. Full details are available at
