CHRISTMAS is fast approaching, leaving one last chance to complete celebrations in global spirit with the 70-strong York choir Millegro at York Guildhall on Wednesday at 8pm.
Millegro’s Winter Concert series has become increasingly popular under the baton of musical director Ewa Salecka, who once again has selected a unique programme of material accompanied by pianist Greg Birch.
Seasonal music from countries as diverse as Argentina, Venezuela and South Africa features alongside familiar names such as Bob Chilcott, new arrangements by Ewa herself and a new wave of contemporary composers.
“As always, the emphasis is on entertainment and contrast with a show designed to complement every Yuletide calendar,” says Ewa.
Millegro’s final show of 2013 is the culmination of a season that began with their winter concerts in Budapest as part of the 13th advent choral festival, an event memorable for its gala finale in the beautiful St Stephen’s Basilica.
After returning to Britain to play Pocklington Arts Centre last Saturday with Forgotten Voices Community Choir, Millegro will also appear at this Sunday’s York Community Carol Concert at York Barbican at 2.30pm.
Tickets for Millegro’s Guildhall concert are selling fast at £10 and seats are limited. Reservations can be made at millegro@gemmusic.co.uk or you may buy on the door from 7.15pm. Drinks and refreshments will be available before the 8pm start.
