CELLIST Julian Lloyd Webber will lead off Harrogate International Festival’s 21st Spring Sunday Series at the Old Swan Hotel next year.

He will be performing Tale Of Two Cellos with his wife, fellow cellist Jiaxin Cheng, and pianist Pam Chowhan on January 26 in a programme that ranges from the music of his brother, Andrew Lloyd Webber, to Bach and Vivaldi.

Pianist Christian Zacharias will perform Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No 12 on February 9; the Navarra String Quartet will feature the soulful music of Peteris Vasks on March 2; Russian violinist Dmitry Sitkovetsky will play on March 30; and South Korean pianist Young-Choon Park will close the series on April 6.

Sharon Canavar, chief executive officer of Harrogate International Festivals, describes the Sunday Series as “truly remarkable”.

“It’s a chance to catch world-class musicians who headline in the world’s most prestigious venues on our doorstep in Harrogate,” she says. “We’re thrilled to open the series with Julian Lloyd Webber, who first played at the Harrogate International Festival in our Young Musician series when relatively unknown.”
