THE Wave Pictures, an all-time favourite band of Please Please You concert promoter Joe Coates, are booked in for a three-night residency in City Screen’s Basement.

“They specifically asked to come to York to do one of four such residencies nationwide, so we’re very privileged, especially as they’ll be performing a completely different set each night from their huge back catalogue,” says Joe.

“Not only are The Wave Pictures utterly lovely but they’re also undoubtedly one of the finest live bands in the country. For the uninitiated, we’re talking ramshackle rock’n’roll performed on bass, drums and electric guitar, married to genius songs that beautifully capture loss, longing and the mundane.”

Since guitarist David Tattersall and bass player Franic Rozycki began recording together in the village of Wymeswold in the late 1990s, with the addition of drummer Jonny ‘‘Huddersfield’’ Helm, The Wave Pictures have recorded a dozen albums and numerous singles and EPs.

Latest record Long Black Cars was recorded mostly live by friend and former Hefner frontman Darren Hayman for release by Moshi Moshi Records in March.

The Wave Pictures will be supported by Missing Kids and Will Sharpe on Wednesday; Finnmark and Sam Forrest on Thursday; Fur Blend on Friday.

A limited number of tickets for all three shows are available at £15 at pleasepleaseyou.com Otherwise, each night costs £8 in advance or £10 on the door.
