YORK music promoters Please Please You and indie record label Bad Paintings team up to present The Babies at The Duchess on Friday night.

“This show is one of only four in the UK for this Sixties/garage/pop quartet from New York,” says Please Please You’s Joe Coates.

“Friday'sgig is a celebration of a lot of people’s hard work in York, and it’s great news that one of the city’s most exciting bands, top noise poppers Fawn Spots, will be supporting The Babies on this tour.”

The Babies were formed by Vivian Girls guitarist Cassie Ramone and Woods bassist Kevin Morby in Brooklyn after a chance meeting in 2009. Drummer Justin Sullivan and bassist Brian Schleyer were added and a self-titled debut record ensued on the legendary American indie label Shrimper.

In 2012, they signed to Woodist for their second album, Our House On The Hill, while Bad Paintings marked last year’s Record Shop Day by releasing a seven-inch single of two early recordings by The Babies that had never seen the light of day.

A couple of months later, the New York band visited York to play to a sell-out crowd in the Bar Lane Studios basement in a Bad Paintings co-promotion with York party starters Wrong Side Of The River.

Friday's return will kick off at 8pm. In between the live sets, the Bad Paintings boys will be in DJ action; tickets cost £7 in advance from The Duchess or £9 on the door.
