THE Magic Numbers will play Pocklington Arts Centre on Saturday, September 14, on their first ever acoustic tour.

Their Pock debut will form part of the Ealing four piece’s series of intimate dates in theatres, churches and concert venues in Britain and Ireland this autumn.

The band was formed in 2002 by two pairs of brothers and sisters, Angela and Sean Gannon, of Irish stock, and Michele and Romeo Stodart, who have a Scottish father and a Portuguese mother and were born in Trinidad, raised in New York and moved to London in the mid-1990s.

Since 2005, The Magic Numbers have released three albums, kicking off with their first and still best record, The Magic Numbers, that year. The disappointing Those The Brokes followed in 2006 and after a four-year-hiatus came the elegant The Runaway in 2010.

The as-yet-untitled follow-up is scheduled for early next year.

“We’ve always thought that you should approach every new release as if it’s the first thing you’ve ever done,” said Romeo. “It’s an intense period for us, making a record - we tend to shut ourselves off from the world.

“I’m really excited about the next album. It’s some of the best songs I've written so I’m anxious for people to hear it, especially for those who may have never had the chance to see us live before.”

Tickets for The Magic Numbers’ first show in The Press territory since Fibbers in York in December 2009 go on sale tomorrow at 10am on 01759 301547 or pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
